Paia Community Center playground-CLOSED

the "tickle slide"

the “tickle slide”

When you just need a playground…

Location: Hana Highway, behind Paia Commmunity Center, about 1/2 mile east (toward Haiku) of Baldwin Ave.

Facilities: Play structure, one shade tree, free parking

What to bring: Hat and sunscreen, drinking water

Best time to go: cloudy or windy days, early morning and late afternoon on sunny days

Be aware: there is no access to bathroom facilities at Paia Community Center.  Sometimes there is a port a potty in the parking lot but don’t count on it

Kids always love the “tickle slide” as we call it.  This slide has a semi steep angle and the roller bars give them an extra push making this a fun fast ride.  Toddlers need extra help here so their little fingers don’t get pinched in the rollers.  There is also a tunnel slide, a straight slide, monkey bars, a tire swing, and lots of bridges for running over and under.  Frankly this is not the prettiest park on Maui; it is stark, and can be host and dusty.  But sometimes with kids, you just really need a playground.  And when they see slide and ladders, they won’t notice the lack of landscaping.  That’s one of the wonderful things about hanging out with kids: they so often see the rainbows and not the rain.  So add this to your playground passport.  And don’t forget to try the tickle slide.
